Talent & candidates (participant experience)

Talent and Candidate users are the people taking assessments — not administrators. Their Skilladder experience is intentionally minimal, focused on assessment completion and their own skills record.

What they see

AreaWhat's there
DashboardPending assessment invites, recent completions, a prompt to view their Skill Profile
Skill ProfileTheir personal record of skills evidenced through completed assessments

That's it. The Assessments section, Candidates directory, Templates, Question Bank, and Companies are not visible to Talent or Candidate users — this is by design, not a permissions error.

:::note If a test account has extra menus

If you're using a demo or staging account and it shows admin sections for a Talent user, the account has been set up with mixed roles. Escalate to #producttech_cooking before using it in a customer demo.

How candidates arrive on the platform

Most candidates arrive via an assessment invite link sent by email. The invite page handles both new sign-ups and returning users from the same screen — it's separate from the main sign-in page and sets up the right context for the assessment automatically.

Common CS issue: If a candidate arrives at the invite page already signed in under a different email (for example their personal address instead of their work email), Skilladder will show an email mismatch message. The fix is to sign out completely, then reopen the original invite link.
