Public preview links
A public preview link lets someone review an assessment's questions without signing in to Skilladder. It's useful for sharing with a hiring manager, client stakeholder, or partner who doesn't have a Skilladder account.
How it works
When an assessment owner creates a public preview link, they get a URL with a built-in access token. Anyone with that URL can open a read-only view of the assessment — they see the questions exactly as a candidate would, but no responses are recorded and nothing is scored.
The link expires after a set period. Once expired it stops working, and a new one needs to be generated by the assessment owner.
What the recipient sees
- A read-only view of the assessment questions
- A label marking it as a preview (clearly distinguishing it from a live candidate session)
- No ability to submit responses
Common error messages
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Missing preview token" | The URL was truncated — the token part got cut off in transit | Ask the sender to share the full link again |
| "This preview link is invalid, expired, or has been revoked" | The link has expired or was manually revoked | Ask the assessment owner to generate a new public preview link |
:::tip When sharing preview links
Generating a new link supersedes any previous one. If someone has an older link that stopped working, get a fresh one from the assessment owner — don't try to fix the old URL.
