Templates — create, edit, and deploy

Goal: Create reusable assessment templates, edit existing ones, and deploy them across companies.

Who can do this:

  • View templates list: Company administrators, company staff, Staff viewers, and operators
  • Create or edit templates: Company administrators and company staff with the Manage assessment templates permission enabled
  • Deploy to other companies: Platform admins, Directory admins, and MCA users with deployment access

Before you start

  • Templates are blueprints — deploying a template to a company creates a live assessment based on that blueprint. They are not the same as live assessments.
  • If Templates is missing from your sidebar, your role doesn't include template access. Check Capabilities matrix.

Browse and filter templates

  1. Click Templates in the sidebar.
  2. Use search and the available filters (portfolio company, source, origin) to find what you need.
  3. Read the status badges — templates can be Draft, Active, or Archived.
  4. Use pagination if the list is long.

Create a new template

  1. Click Create template (top right, usually a plus button).
  2. The system creates a new Draft named Untitled template and takes you straight to the edit wizard.
  3. If you see an empty state instead of being redirected, your account needs the Manage assessment templates permission — ask your company administrator.

Edit a template

  1. Click Edit in the template row actions.
  2. Walk through the wizard steps: name, scope, skills, and settings.
    • On the Scope step, a skill cluster dropdown appears when the assessment type is Skill cluster — select by name, no ID entry required.
  3. Save as you go — avoid closing the tab mid-save if your internet connection is unstable.

:::note Archived templates

Archived templates open in a read-only summary view. Restore the template first to re-enable editing.

View the questions on a template

On any template detail page, scroll down to the collapsible Questions section.

  • This section only appears once the template has been materialised (library templates are materialised automatically on publish).
  • Click the section header to expand it — the question count is shown there.
  • Each question is individually expandable: it shows the type badge, whether it came from the bank (Bank badge), answer options (with the correct answer marked), and the marking rubric for open-ended questions.
  • Use Expand all / Collapse all to review the full set at once.

Deploy a template to other companies

Portfolio operators (Platform, Directory, MCA) can push a template to one or more destination companies:

  1. Open the row actions for the template and select Deploy.
  2. In the dialog, choose the target company or companies from the dropdown.
  3. Confirm — the dialog summarises what will happen.
  4. On success, switch to the target company's context or check their Assessments list to verify.

:::tip Naming templates

Rename templates with clear, descriptive names before sending to customers or during demos. A proliferation of "Untitled template" entries confuses MCA stakeholders during reviews.
