Home page — what to expect on landing
Goal: Understand what your home screen shows and how it reflects your role and current activity.
The home screen (/) is a permanent, role-aware command centre — not a one-time onboarding step. It shows a high-level summary of what's available to you, the current state of your work, and a nudge toward the most important action right now. The page updates automatically as your activity grows.

What each role sees
Platform Admin
Cards: Assessment Requests · Assessments · Companies · Question Bank
The primary nudge points to pending assessment requests (if any), then the question bank review queue. Each card shows a live count and a direct link into that area.
Quick access strip at the bottom links to: Hiring Signals, Portfolio Access, Sync Command Centre, Templates.
A "View metrics overview →" link goes to /overview for the classic metrics dashboard.
Directory Admin
Cards: Assessment Requests · Question Bank · Assessments · Skills Taxonomy
Focused entirely on content operations — no candidate or company pipeline widgets. The primary nudge points to pending assessment requests, then the question bank review queue.
Directory Admin does not get a /overview metrics page — this home page is their entire landing.
Multi-Company Admin
Cards: Portfolio Companies · Assessments · Candidates · Templates
All counts are scoped to their assigned portfolio companies. If the portfolio is empty, a prominent callout explains how to get companies added (contact platform admin, or use the "Add to my portfolio" button on the /companies page).
A "View metrics overview →" link goes to /overview for the cross-portfolio metrics dashboard.
Adding companies to your portfolio: Go to Companies in the sidebar. Click "Add to my portfolio" to open a search modal and assign any platform company to your portfolio.
Company Admin (Company Role)
Cards: Assessments · Candidates · Question Bank · Templates
The primary nudge follows a hierarchy:
- No assessments → "Assemble your first assessment from the question bank"
- Has assessments but no candidates → "Share your assessment with candidates"
- Has candidates → "Review candidate results"
A "View metrics overview →" link goes to /overview for the classic admin metrics dashboard.
Company Staff
Same four cards as Company Admin, but rendered conditionally based on the staff member's actual permission flags:
| Card | Requires permission |
|---|---|
| Assessments | Always shown (read-only if no create access) |
| Candidates | canViewResults |
| Question Bank | canManageQuestionBank |
| Templates | canCreateAssessments or canManageTemplates |
A "View metrics overview →" link goes to /overview.
Staff Viewer
Cards: Assessments · Candidates · Templates · Question Bank (all read-only)
A notice at the top of the page explains read-only status. No create CTAs appear anywhere.
A "View metrics overview →" link goes to /overview.
Talent / Candidate
Cards: Pending Assessments · Completed Assessments · Verified Skills · Skill Profile
The primary nudge points to pending assessments if any exist; otherwise it directs to the skill profile.
Skill profile content is populated automatically by assessment results — candidates do not fill it in manually.
Candidate does not get a /overview metrics page.
The /overview metrics page
/overview is the classic metrics dashboard (throughput charts, recent activity, candidate counts). It is accessible from the sidebar under "Overview" for all roles except Directory Admin and Candidate.
If a role is not mentioned above, they do not have access to /overview — the home page is their only landing.
Verify the correct home screen is loading
- Sign in as the user (or use your organisation's impersonation workflow if available).
- Land on
/and read the role badge in the welcome header to confirm which home has loaded. - Compare the sidebar links against Capabilities matrix.
If the wrong home loads — for example a Directory Admin seeing candidate pipeline widgets — escalate to #producttech_cooking. This usually indicates a mis-seeded role.
What happens next
- Capabilities matrix — full list of what each role can access in the sidebar
